Five Essential Winter Sounds

18 – 5 Must Haves for Winter Survival {bookish and non-bookish winter loves … moisturizer to keep those page-turning hands working, a plushy blanket, favorite tea / cocktail / coffee / hot chocolate etc.} – link-up hosted at Traveling with T

In addition to music here are five sounds I love to hear in winter:

  1. The crunch of Angelo plowing my driveway--yea, people can get to me in case of emergency (no way am I going out)!
  2. The sump pump pumping--yea, the cellar isn't flooding!
  3. The thump of the UPS parcel hitting the porch--yea, books!
  4. The bloop, bloop of the coffee pot perking--yea, caffeine!
  5. The rumble of the weekly generator test--yea, it works! If the power goes out the pump will pump, the coffee will perk, and there will be a light for reading!
Do you have a favorite winter sound?

  1. Lol! I loved that you chose to talk about your favourite sounds! I haven't ever thought about that. I'll have to agree with the caffeine though, it is indeed a winter essential.

    1. Another favorite sound: someone else in the kitchen making lunch.

  2. Ha! And I love it. Hmmm - haven't heard my husband do a weekly generator test yet!

    1. My generator automatically tests itself. And the guy is coming tomorrow to do the six month maintenance.

  4. Thanks! When I sat down to do this post the sump kicked on and I thought "such a comforting sound" and the post started writing itself.

  5. Love it! :D
'no way am I going out' <- that sounds like me even if I can't avoid going out but it's the idea ;)

No specific sound for me, rather contacts like the softness of the polar blanket, the warmth of the mug of tea in my hands, the other warmth of the hat on my head, the melting of my face cream on the skin and so on.

  7. I love how you turned this into sounds. And I, too, love the sound of the UPS truck delivering books! Bellezza (dolcebellezza.net)

  8. When I lived in Santa Barbara the sounds were pretty much the same year-round, but here in New England there unique sounds for each season. Right now we are transitioning from leaf blowers and tree trimmers to salt trucks to snow plows.
